The Art of Raw Desserts Cookbook
I have some BIG news to share! I wrote my very first solo-authored cookbook! WHAT?! It sounds surreal when I type it out. I honestly never thought I’d write a cookbook and I wasn’t too keen on the idea at first. I know how much work it is and I wasn’t sure how it would fit into my already busy work schedule.
I had been approached by publishers before and always declined because of their ridiculous turnaround times and offers but this publisher was different. After my first call with them, I actually started considering it, I really liked their energy, they were really understanding of my busy schedule and willing to work with me. I said yes! It was very scary; writing a cookbook is not easy and I had a paralyzing fear that no one would like it. But I’m sure everyone has the same fear when they venture out on a project like this.
I accepted the offer in January 2021 and handed in the manuscript in March 2022. It took me over a year to finish it because I was also creating and launching the biggest online course of my business at the same time (I know what was I thinking!) I don’t think I have ever worked so hard in my life for that long. I have so much respect for anyone who writes a cookbook; it is one of the most challenging projects I have ever accomplished. Once I handed in the manuscript; then the photos were due (yes, I also did my own food photography), developmental editing, weight conversions, more editing, design approval, and lastly marketing.

What I have learned…
As I said, this cookbook was one of the most challenging things I have ever done (even more challenging than 12 days of silent meditation) but I learned so much throughout the entire process. It made me a better recipe developer, recipe writer, food photographer and gave me more confidence in the kitchen. It also made me a better raw dessert chef because of the number of recipes I had to create, I did a lot of experimenting. I wanted to create recipes that were unique with a variety of skill levels; so there is something for everyone.
The team I worked with at the publisher was amazing, during the writing process they really get you thinking about your readers and how they would interpret the recipe. I’m so used to doing online courses that are supplemented with videos so my students see the process of executing a recipe but if you’re only following a written recipe it’s a whole other ball game. You have to be very thorough; my recipe writing improved tenfold which was perfect timing when launching Raw Food Culinary Academy, I was able to implement my up leveled skills into the program and because of that it would not have turned out as amazing as it is.
Of course, I also learned so much about writing a cookbook itself; I had no experience (other than ebooks), and it was very interesting to learn all the ins and outs of the entire process. I am so happy I took on this challenge and I cannot wait for you to get your copy!
